Let’s face it; people don’t come to Facebook to see advertisements.

5 simple steps for getting more engagement on your content.
It’s amazing how ingrained Facebook has become in our lives, personally and professionally; as consumers and as individuals.
Facebook is simple, you update your wall and people will flock to your page and respond, right?
That is the dream that every business owner believes before they get started; or that is what they’ve learned from people who claimed to be ‘experts’ in this field.
Most people tend to give up or stop updating their page when they aren’t seeing the results that they want despite their constant updates.
To increase engagement on Facebook, you need to create content that is not only relevant but personal too.
Based on my own experience with my brand and through analyzing what other brands do, I’ll share with you some methods that have helped me increase my Facebook page engagement and what I’ve seen worked well for others.
1. Timing

Timing is extremely important when it comes to posting on any social networks.
Imagine updating your wall post when everyone is at work or when they are sleeping.
It would be better to post after work or when people are in transit.
These are the times that people are most likely to check for updates on their social network accounts.
The best time to share on Facebook is noon and a little after 7pm.
A tool that I recommend to help you ease the work is Buffer. Buffer has proven to increase Facebook engagement as users are posting at the right times.
2. Build Curiosity NOT Resistance

One, understand the contrast of building curiosity and building resistance.
Curiosity is what you want to accomplish on social media, not resistance.
It’s a big deal of getting people to want to reach out to you, of getting people to want to engage with you. Like, “Hey, what are they up to? Hey, three tips to lose my love handles, what’s that about?”
Curiosity: you want to increase curiosity to attract people to you so that they want to invest more time with you.
Resistance: is where you’re overly pitching or it’s just too easy to see what your agenda is.
If I post every day on this page, “Hey guys, buy my thing, buy my thing. Hey, did I mention buy my thing? You should join my team.” If I did that every day eventually I would also not get any engagement because at some point people are like, “Oh my God, here we go again, geez.” Unfollow.
Curiosity is what you want to accomplish on social media, not resistance.

3. Plan Using Different Calls to Action

There isn’t a one-size-fits-all solution for crafting a call to action (CTA) to tell your readers what you want them to do next.
Different CTAs may work better than others for your fans.
Make sure your CTA matches the goal you’ve set for your reader.
Jayson DeMers outlines different kinds of CTAs to achieve different conversion goals:
CTA to encourage engagement— “Please take a moment to leave your comments or thoughts below.”
CTA to drive the reader to other content— “For an in-depth look, sign up to download our white paper.”
CTA to increase signups or lead capture— “To get regular updates, sign up for our weekly newsletter.”
CTA to nurture leads— “Watch this video for a more in-depth look at how this product can help improve your business.”
CTA for sales— “To get immediate access to this training and all the bonuses, click here.”
Take a look at your Facebook Insights to pinpoint the correlation between posts that created more CTA engagement and the wording you used in your updates.
4. Quiz Your Fans About Their Interests.

It’s hard to break the ice or start a genuine conversation when you don’t know anything about the person (or fan) on the other side of the table.
To learn more about your fans and encourage them to engage with you and other fans, ask questions that invite them to share about their interests or what they enjoy doing in their free time.
You can just write something like this on your page, “Tell us what you’re reading this weekend.”
5. Post Photo in Comments.

This is a sneaky trick that you’ve probably seen, but didn’t think about from a social media marketing perspective; commenting with photos.
According to KISSmetrics, photos get 53% more likes, 104% more comments, and 84% more clicks on links than text-based posts.
Photos also stick out like a sore thumb (in a good way) in the comments section so try responding to customer posts or even the content of peers to attract more engagement.
