In this post, I share the most effective sales prospecting techniques
1.Be an Encourager
When you’re trying to get someone to like you, you’ll do or say anything to make the other person happy.
Prospects don’t trust network marketers and even salespeople like that again, whether they like them or not.
However, they trust people either networker or not who challenge them to look at their problems and objectives in a new way.
The best way to do that is by asking your prospects provocative questions.
How do you ask provocative questions? Start your next conversation by mentioning two or three challenges you’ve observed in the industry, and then ask your prospect if any of those challenges resonate.
If the answer is yes, the prospect will immediately view you as an expert and someone to be trusted.
If the answer is no, and your prospect isn’t experiencing challenges you can solve, then you know right away that it’s not a good fit. This frees you up to move onto another prospect who will actually need your product or service.
2. Be an Industry Thought Leader
Prospects want to buy from or join a trusted source.
While you can know everything about your product or service, being seen as the source of knowledge and truth within your industry can boost your reputation, build awareness for your product or service, and lessen the friction in getting your leads to the closing table.
Thought leadership opportunities such as written content, keynote speeches, industry round-tables, or even a Reddit or Twitter “Ask Me Anything” (AMA) session could provide strong social proof for a sale or for people to join your team.
3. Ask for Refferals
Our lives as networkers; it’s the best of times; it’s the worst of times.
Make sure you make the most of the best; when things are going well, when the quarterly business review (QBR) is all smiles—and ask for a referral, a testimonial, a quote or a case study.
Refferals are one of the most powerful sales prospecting techniques.
Prospects love hearing from peers before they commit, so provide peer reviews by asking prospects for social proof. (One of my favorite speakers/mentors always asks for social proof via quick video testimonial.)
Find contacts in the prospect’s circle and ask for referrals.
Make new contacts and do the same. Get introduced through your connections and efforts.
How to get started with this: Be referrable. Focus on your ideal clients. Tap into your networks in a proactive way. Create a template to have on-hand and ready to use each time you make a sale. By putting a referral system into place now, you are more likely to receive lead-boosting referrals throughout the year.
